2011 NFL Preview

The NFL season kicks off tonight with the previos two Super Bowl champs (Green Bay & New Orleans) meeting on the Frozen Tundra. The last Super Bowl champ to lose it's opening game the following season was the 1999 Denver Broncos. Smart $$$ is on the Packers tonight and for much of the season. Now, without further ado, here are some NFL picks that could win you some over/under cash or could leave you homeless. Indulge at your own risk.

SUPER BOWL XLVI: BALTIMORE OVER PHILADELPHIA, 27-24 (OT)

*For the 3rd straight year I’m predicting the first ever OT Super Bowl. It has to happen one of these years, right? (Hey, I am on a 1-year pick-the-NFL-champ streak here, so give me some credit!) In a year where chalk leads people to a Green Bay-New England showdown, there are too many changes and too much flux in the league to get all chalky. I don’t love the Eagles, but I think a great defense will help an offense a lot. When Michael Vick runs that offense and, the most unsung player in the league – LeSean McCoy – as his wingman, there isn’t a need for that much more help. Baltimore has been close in recent years, but the hurdle is none other than the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Baltimore can get past Pittsburgh, the rest of the playoffs and the Super Bowl will feel like a cakewalk. That’s what I’m predicting will happen this year. Baltimore edges the Steelers early in the playoffs and rides that momentum all the way to the title. Cleveland will love Art Modell even more come February.

UPDATE: With the Colts' Peyton Manning likely missing a few months if not being put on IR, the Colts will have an awful season. I find 6 wins very generous, but the division is so terrible that 6-10 seems to fit.
