2010 MLB Preview

One week into the season hasn't influenced my initial baseball predictions. If anything, the first week of the season tends to inflate records of teams who play the bottom feeders (see the Tigers starting 5-1 vs. the Royals and Indians). Like the NBA, where a handful of teams can realistically win the title, this year's MLB landscape has the same feel. The 3-team gauntlet of AL East teams seem to hold the key to the American League Championship while the Phillies and Cardinals, and, if it can get some hitting, San Francisco, are the only real title threats in the National League.

Pitching is the key to a deep playoff run and Roy Halladay is an absolute beast. Giving him an offense and taking away 18 games against the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays each year means he should be a runaway for the NL Cy Young and will singlehandedly carry the Phillies to a WS title (wins in Games 1 and 5 against the Yanks).
